Where the name comes from

We wanted a new name, one that did not already exist. We took inspiration from words in Latin:

  • Lumen: a source of light, a glowing body.
  • Esse: to be.
  • -anity: an ending as in “Humanity” (and “Christianity”).

Together: Lum(en) + esse + anity. We changed the ending “-eanity” to “-ianity” to make the name easier to say and to spell. And so: Lumessianity.

“Messianity”

The name also happens to contain the word “Messianity”. Though it is not an official English word, it is close to:

  • Messianism (noun): the belief in a messiah, or a system of thought centered on a political or religious savior, redemption, or an impending golden age.
  • Messianic (adjective): relating to a messiah, or to an overarching, zealous mission to save or transform society.

Lumessianity does not claim that there is a messiah or a religious savior. But it does have an aspiration to transform humanity for the better, towards a golden age (or at least an improved world).

(By the way, there is a Japanese new religion called the “Church of World Messianity”, but Lumessianity is completely unrelated to it.)
